Tattoo Equipment created for Tattooers by Tattooers

Hand-crafted awesomeness  was received in the mail today!!!!

As well as some tattoos from the past week.

I did not initially do these letters, but they’re there and needed to be incorporated into the sleeve.

I also got to do a tattoo AND finish it the same day!  It’s nice to have these once in a while.

After the Storm

Work has resumed and I’d like to say thank you to everyone who’s contacted me this month eager to get tattooed.  It’s encouraging to see so many folks not letting Isaac hold them back and to pick up their lives and trudge on.

Walter was supposed to get tattooed last month but the storm delayed our schedule.  Luckily I was able to work on him this past week and we created this fun flesh wound starring none other than the pack leader himself, the Gray Wolf.  Progress was made on some other designs as well, but nothing was finished.

Biting Frost

The All-Father rendered in the flesh.  We put almost 4.5 hours into this today and still have a ways to go.

Odin’s birds are known to be Ravens, but the interesting point of doing them as Swallows was to: 1) Swallows work into the idea of Traditional tattoo imagery more frequently and 2) Swallows are smaller in size compared to Ravens.  Their exaggerated-small size really adds to this notion of Odin being more Giant-Size or Godly than of mere mortal stature.

Venus Of The Dead!

This Earth Mother design was a blast to work on!  There’s a great deal of contrast between the slick leaves and the gritty statue that really make the center focal point stand out even more.

This idea is just absolutely great and should certainly be much more of an international holiday than to be confined to such a small area.

Off today….. blog needs update!

With summer underway, I’ve had several fortunate opportunities to start some really great new projects.

I will never get tired or bored with these subject matters.  As a matter of fact, I’ve got an entire list of imagery I’d love to work on here.

Day of the Dead Marionette

Posted in Tattoo with tags , , on May 19, 2012 by Chris Black

This was our first session which took a few hours.  It’s not really a marionette as there are no strings attached to the appendages, but we loosely designed the body after those skeletons you see in the French Quarter souvenir shops.

This project took about 7 or 8 hours to complete.  Another fun tattoo for me to file under the interesting praying hands concept.

I was happy with the way this tattoo fit and is a clear example of how I try to create a dynamic look in my tattoos by working within the frame of sight and also making the image a little over-sized to fit in the area we are working on.  This technique lends itself to the notion that we are no longer viewing a body part, but more of a central focus of the tattoo.  Almost as if the image is there and the outer lines of the arms shape have created our frame.

You’ve seen the butcher.

This is on the opposite side of the leg in correspondence with the pig/meat cleaver we completed.  These are on a butcher from a local grocery store.  That’s right!  Those unsuspecting soccer moms are placing orders from a rather happy-go-lucky fella who just happens to enjoy a little blood and gore.

I must admit, this design has been quite surreal to work on!  Not just because I’m partial to dark imagery, but because this speaks volumes about the owner.  The man loves his job, and I thoroughly enjoy tattooing designs which express peoples passions.  Being quite partial to my own job, i understand the amount of satisfaction one can obtain through work.
